Do I need a VISA to travel to Italy?

NO VISA IS NECESSARY

  • If you are a U.S. citizen
  • Will be traveling to Italy for up to 90 days for tourism
  • Will be traveling to Italy for up to 90 days for
    • study,
    • business
    • as part of a political or government mission
    • for a sports event
    • in response to an invitation from a recognized Italian public or private entity.

IF NONE OF THE ABOVE APPLY TO YOU

To apply for a visa in the U.S. you need to have at least one of the following:

  • U.S. Passport;
  • U.S. Permanent Resident Card (formerly Green Card);
  • For foreign students, a valid visa and valid I-20;
  • For exchange visitors, a valid visa and valid DS-2019;
  • Long term U.S. visas (Ex. L1, L2, H1, H2, R1 etc…) except B1/B2;
  • U.S. Refugee Travel Document.

You can apply for a visa at the Italian Embassy in Washingon DC only if you live in:

  • The District of Columbia (D.C.);
  • Maryland (M.D.): only Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties (all other Counties are under the jurisdiction of the Italian General Consulate in Philadelphia);
  • Virginia (V.A.): only Arlington and Fairfax Counties and the City of Alexandria (all other Counties are under the jurisdiction of the Italian General Consulate in Philadelphia).
